Tom Drane Dominates AFT Singles as Dallas Daniels Shines in Remarkable Comeback at Springfield Mile

Tom Drane and Dallas Daniels delivered standout performances at the Springfield Mile I & II, making a significant impact in their respective classes during the Progressive American Flat Track season.

Dallas Daniels: A Remarkable Comeback

Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) returned to the track just six weeks after undergoing surgery for a broken femur. Despite still using a crutch off the bike, Daniels demonstrated resilience and skill in both Mission AFT SuperTwins Main Events. In the first race, starting from pole, he was involved in a near-disastrous incident, clipping the rear wheels of both Brandon Price and Brandon Robinson. However, Daniels miraculously stayed upright and fought his way back from seventh to finish on the podium in third place, extending his streak to 11 consecutive podium finishes.

In the second race, Daniels once again showed his tenacity, challenging reigning champion Jared Mees for much of the event. Although his fitness was tested after a month of recovery, Daniels held off a late charge from Robinson to secure second place, pushing his podium streak to 12. His performances underscored his determination and skill, keeping him in the title fight.

Tom Drane: A Rising Star in AFT Singles

In the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles class, Tom Drane (No. 59 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F) was a force to be reckoned with, winning both Main Events in dramatic fashion. In the first race, Drane found himself in a four-rider battle, including championship leader Kody Kopp, Chase Saathoff, and Chad Cose. With a red flag resetting the race for a two-lap dash to the finish, Drane made a daring move on the final stretch, overtaking Saathoff at the line to win by just 0.048 seconds.

Drane replicated his success in the second Main Event, this time facing even tougher competition. In a tight five-rider pack, Drane swapped positions with Saathoff, Cose, and Kopp throughout the race. On the final lap, Drane again used his late-race prowess to pass Saathoff at the finish by an even narrower margin of 0.019 seconds. His back-to-back victories brought him within 22 points of the championship lead, solidifying his status as a top contender.

Both Daniels and Drane showed incredible grit and determination, each playing a crucial role in the drama of the Springfield Mile weekend. Daniels’ return from injury and Drane’s double victories showcased their talent and championship potential.
