Jake Johnson Looking To Carry X Games Momentum To Sturgis

With his X Games podium finish still fresh on his mind, Estenson Racing’s Jake Johnson looks to keep that momentum rolling into American Flat Track’s Sturgis Rally doubleheader – the Buffalo Chip TT and Black Hills Half-Mile. The two tracks couldn’t be any more different, so the team will be breaking two different tools out of the shed for Johnson to put on top of the podium.

The two-time Grand National Champion is very eager to return to the Buffalo Chip TT on Sunday, August 5, where he had his best result of 2017. Johnson is hoping to improve on last year’s third-place finish and put the Indian Scout FTR750 on the top step of the box.

Johnson also really likes Black Hills Speedway, a rider favorite for being a very racey, clay Half-Mile. With his recent success at X Games Minneapolis, Johnson will once again get back on the Harley-Davidson XR750 to try and take another podium on the old flat tracker at the Black Hills Half-Mile, Tuesday night, August 7.

“I’m looking forward to Sturgis. Obviously last year, the Buffalo Chip TT was my best finish of the year. I like the track. I kind of like that whole event, so I’ve definitely been looking forward to that one all year. Rapid City [Black Hills Half-Mile], too. That’s one of the only true Half-Miles we have left on the schedule. It’s a big, fast, clay Half-Mile and the track’s usually good.

“Although it’s definitely a crazy three days: race, a day to kind of regroup, and then right back at it again. We’ll also be on different bikes at each race. I haven’t ridden an Indian on a TT yet, but looking forward to that and looking forward to getting back on the XR for Tuesday at Rapid City. I’ve got some momentum coming from X Games, so hopefully we can keep that rolling along and finish out the season a little closer to where we belong.”
